Hi! I’m selling my much-loved VW Crafter MWB ultimate remote working and adventure van. This van is totally unique, optimised for remote work with a huge amount of storage for kitesurfing, mountain biking, surfing, or whatever sport takes your fancy.
The whole design was planned around being off-grid for days. Comfortably working in online workshops and then being able to jump on the water at a moment’s notice.
=== Key Features: ===
– Entirely electric (no gas) with 460Ah of Roamer Lithium batteries and entirely Victron electrics, including a 3000W inverter.
– Off-grid aircon from MaxxAir and household infrared heating.
– 4G antenna and wifi router, configuration for Starlink
– Huge garage space yet spacious bed, kitchen, living, and office setup.
– Upgraded air suspension with in-cab compressor.
– Professional (not homemade) conversion.
=== Unique Off-Grid Work Set-Up ===
I set up the following so I could be off grid working for weeks at a time as if in a real office. The batteries and solar is optimised for two to three days off-grid with air-con, or unlimited without the aircon!
– Sitting or standing desk designed for a full monitor setup. The desk lifts up and down on a hydraulic lever converting to a bench or kitchen table when not in use as the office.
– 4G internet router and wifi with dual-sim setup
– Air-con to make working comfortable even in hot sunny conditions.
– Four layers of exceptional insulation (more on that later) and sound-deadening
– Maxxair fan.
– Silent 400w infrared heater for cold days (including thermostat), on top of the aircon 2000w in heat mode.
– All powered by top spec Victron electronics including a 3000w invertor and 460Ah of Lithium
=== Living ===
The unique layout features:
– Huge kitchen space with a gigantic kitchen sink, hot water, and UV filtered cold water.
– Induction hobs for cooking (plus space for an airfryer!)
– Dometic fridge freezer.
– Double bed under a skylight with a custom memory foam mattress. Measures 170cm by 130cm. I sleep diagonally at 5ft11 fully stretched and very comfortably. With two people you easily fit side by side.
– Van benches can convert into a second bed for a three birth setup or four birth with small children.
– Ample amounts of storage.
– Simploo compost toilet – includes extractor fan and under-van tank. Much better than a chemical toilet with zero smells.
– 60L fresh water tank and 40L grey water tank (both underslung)
– Fiamma awning (brand-new, hardly used)
– Rear shower with water heater
=== Insulation ===
Please see the photos on this link: https://www.loom.com/share/3a6aed420e804e6c8f45b528080edbfa
Includes:
– Sound deadening for panels
– Sound deadening and foil reflective layer on panels as first line of insulation.
– Wool insulation meticulously into the struts then two layers of wool on the panels.
– Sound deadening and foil acting as a vapour layer covering the entire van.
– SP40 – the top of the top insulation typically used in loft insulation as a final wrapper layer.
Overall this van can sit in the sun and not get at all hot and also stay hot overnight in winter.
=== Garage ===
The unique layout was planned around fitting an entire set of kite gear and mountain bikes.
– Spacious design into kitchen area to fit two bikes.
– Huge space for extra gear under the bed.
– AC power point, 12v plugs and lighting.
– Hot water shower and shower curtain off the back (no space taken up inside for a toilet or shower to optimise a MWB van).
=== Security ===
I built this van with security in mind, including:
– SimpliSafe Home Secrurity System including door sensors, two motion sensors, glass smash detector and smoke alarms. Linked to a powerful alarm system and charged via a 12v step down convertor rather than connected to AC power.
– Highest grade Thatcham alarm and immobiliser (cost of £1,200).
– Hidden household electronic Yale Safe with security code which fits a 16” laptop and cameras.
– Double deadlocks on all doors (if anyone was to break in, they would be unable to open any doors and acts a strong deterrent).
– Impossible to open garage without opening a deadlock (meaning anyone who breaks in through a window would be unable to get to sports gear).
– Full glass windows rather than any that can be popped open in cheap van builds.
– Undervan external key lock.
=== Electronics and Batteries ===
– 460Ah Roamer Lithium batteries (upgradeable to 920Ah or more) with onboard BMS.
– 360W mono roof solar (enough to top up daily use)
– 100|30 Victron MPPT solar charge controller
– Second 150|50 Victron MPPT solar charge controller with external hook up point for fold out solar panels (not included).
– Victron Multiplus II 12/3000/120 inverter charger
– Victron Orion DC-DC converter 30A for charging whilst driving
– 240v Victron hookup and cable
– Bluetooth monitoring and connectivity plus internal battery percentage and solar charge monitors.
=== Living Electrics ===
– LED lights throughout the van
– Multiple AC plugs
– AC aircon and 400w infared heater
– 12v electronics including: charge points, fridge, toilet fan, Maxxair fan, wifi and 4g router, water pump etc.
=== VW Crafter ===
– Upgraded rear air suspension with in cab compressor to adjust.
– The Crafter recently has flashed up an issue with the DPF filter. If you search online, you’ll find this is a common issue with VW Crafters and has to be replaced with genuine VW parts at a cost of £2,000 . I have not completed the change since a garage can not give a timeline to get the part. I leave it for any new owner to replace.
– Apple airplay in cab.
– Business pack including aircon and cruise control.
– MOT Due May 2024.
– Unladen weight of 2,900kg.
=== About the conversion ===
This has been converted custom by a close-friend who is a professional van convertor taking on my unique design for an off-grid, remote work set up. We completed the conversion in May 2023 and after a season of use, I’ve decided to move back to Spain and it does not make sense to import a right-hand-drive van. Therefore I’m reluctantly selling to build a similar van on Spanish plates. The van has been used by me with small modifications to perfect the setup along the way. This means you’re not only getting an almost completely new van, but one that has been lived in, tested and optimised.
Please note, in some photos the van includes off-road tires and steel rims, these have been removed and the original van tires restored, and reflected in the van price. Could be upgraded at buyers cost.
Price includes VAT.
