Description
VW Bay Window T2 Camper 1979 tax and MOT Exempt 86,000 miles 2 litre. Winter project ready for the spring? Low insurance with Just Kampers, I paid about £120 a year. Potential to significantly increase the value of this 1979 camper, with some attention to bodywork and engine it could be worth £15K- £20K. We have owned, loved and used this VW for 7 years now, with adventures all over the UK and Europe, including this summer. About 10 years ago the bottom half of the bodywork was professionally restored and resprayed, at that point adjustable suspension was fitted, which is currently lowered slightly, it is a good balance between better handling while still very comfortable to drive, and it was fitted with the current wheels. There is lots of history and many documents which show all the work it has had done on it over the years.
The interior is all ready to use, with 12V and 240V hookup, a double rock and roll bed, with 2 rear seat belts. The front seats are Porsche style, with a revolving passenger seat. There is a 2 hob gas burner and grill, a 12V fridge and custom sized silver reflective blackout blinds for all the windows, attaching with suction cups. There are also curtains which run all the way round the windows. The roof can be lifted for full head height, this space is great for storage on-site, and has space for 2 stretcher style beds (currently the van only has one upper bed).
The bodywork is showing a few rust patches in a number of places, which we have lived with, and for someone who wants to work on this, plus give the engine (all original) some attention, it could be restored to pristine condition. The engine can be seen running, but it has just developed a problem, possibly with the carburettor, which needs to be sorted out. There is also a towbar frame included which was removed about a year ago to allow access to the engine, it could be refitted.
With the purchase of a larger van we are sadly letting go of the VW, and we hope it can go on to someone who either uses it as it is (after some work on the engine) or wants to restore it. If you have any questions or there is anything I haven’t explained please contact me. We are located in Bristol, close to the M32 motorway.
