This van is offered at a substantial discount because work has taken me overseas. The price is significantly below the purchase price of the vehicle and parts, let alone the installation — you’re getting a steal!

Vehicle
2015 Ford Transit 2.2L 4,600kg rear wheel drive minibus base vehicle, mileage 19,915. The van has plenty of power to go uphill, and spare weight capacity to avoid overloading when packed with water and carrying things for trips! This van is easy to manoeuvre, has great visibility, huge mirrors and a reversing camera, 6-gear manual gearbox, cruise control, digital radio with Bluetooth. Two front captain chairs and two rear seats, all with seat belts. Air conditioning is sized to cool the whole vehicle, with outlets in the front.

Accommodation
Moving back from the front, behind the driver’s seat is a rear-facing two-person bench seat (without seat belts), a large drawer underneath opens toward the sliding door providing huge storage space. Opposite is a forward-facing bench seat with two seatbelts, giving a total of four seats for travel. Between the two bench seats is a table giving a spacious dining area. Above the dining area is overhead storage with integrated downlighting.

The table can be lowered to create a second bed, which is over 160 cm long and extends transversely toward the main sliding door.

Behind the dining area on the right side of the vehicle is a storage area complete with a Isotherm 130-litre compressor fridge with 6-litre freezer, allowing you to stock up with fresh food for your longest adventures. Mains 230kV electrical sockets provide power from the inverter or shore power. Vast cupboard space allows great storage for food and clothes.

On the left side is the kitchen area, with Wallas diesel-powered cooktop and sink. The hob uses small amounts of diesel from the main tank, so it doesn’t run down the battery and allows you to do long off-grid trips! The kitchen area has storage underneath and overhead.

At the rear is the large fixed double bed with an IKEA memory foam mattress. Storage under the bed is accessible from the rear barn doors or through a door inside.

Light strips run the full length of the ceiling and under the overhead storage, with control via a MiBoxer panel. The original roof window makes for a bright interior.

A Maxxfan Deluxe in the ceiling provides ventilation and has a remote control. It can operate during rain and whilst driving, has an insect screen and can automatically control its speed to maintain the temperature.

Systems
The van is equipped for serious adventures. A Victron Cerbo GX provides easy visibility, including remotely via web portal, to the electrical systems. A 4G router provides wifi, simply slot in a SIM card.

A 600Ah, 12V AGM battery bank provides adequate power for long periods off-grid. The batteries charge from the alternator whilst driving via a 30A (360W) Victron Orion-Tr charger that detects when the vehicle is running to avoid discharging the starter battery. Solar panels provide 200W of charging via a Victron charge controller. Shore power can also be used to charge at a rapid 70A (840W) via the Victron MultiPlus inverter / charger. The same inverter / charger allows mains 230V devices with power up to 1,600 VA (approx. 1.6kW) to be powered from the battery, therefore allowing higher power devices (including some hair dryers!) to be used. A Victron Smart Battery Protect ensures that the battery isn’t accidentally over-discharged.

A 100+ litre water tank is installed in the rear of the vehicle; this still requires plumbing through to the sink. A 20-litre water tank is installed under the sink which can easily be carried to a tap fill.

Work Required
The professional converter was unable to finish the conversion for personal reasons. The main water tank is therefore not plumbed in, although the van can be used straight away with the existing 20L water tank.

To Note
The van has a higher weight capacity than some vans, meaning it requires a suitable driving licence. If you passed your test before 1997, you are probably “grandfathered” and don’t need any further licence: best to check with DVLA! If you passed since 1997, you probably need to get a category C1 licence, which has a theory and practical component; it’s a straightforward test and may reduce your insurance premiums, I would recommend it for anyone moving from cars to vans.
